Great post Patrick. I have worked in many large organisations in interim consultant roles and an observation I would make is that individuals get caught up in a culture of doing something or anything rather doing the right thing. I would call this culture "execute execute execute". A pause for reflection is frowned upon as a sign of procrastination. And yet, you can return to these organisations later and despite the frantic "activity" that has passed, nothing has really changed.

As you observe, this culture bleeds into our personal lives and never for the better.

Hi Patrick - What a great post! Yesterday I promised a friend to comment on his post here http://workplaceprosperity.com/2011/05/04/my-thoughts-on-the-future-of-work and think that this idea of busyness which you describe so well will be a part of my response. I came across your post at exactly the right time, thank you!

Patrick - one of your best posts - yes it hit a nerve for me also ! Tony Watts

Very useful post. A good reminder that our society is not healthy in terms of hurry-sickness. I hope that this blog post helps some of us to stop and think and take action.
