Simple is Powerful
It seems that a number of people I am reading and listening to these days have come to the conclusion that more features and more functionality does not necessarily mean more customer satisfaction. In fact, it can have the opposite effect.
On the other hand there are simple products - at least simple in operation - that can provide a Wow! factor. GyroQ from Gyronix is one such product. It is used in conjunction with MindManager and supports one significant element of David Allen's Getting Things Done system: trapping thoughts/actions/ideas and closing such 'open loops' by keeping a record of them.
By simply typing CTRL-Q this window pops up:
You can enter your action etc. and this is then stored for filing later in the In-Tray Mind Map, thus:![]()
I've been using it for a few weeks now and it has stood the test of the novelty factor waning. It's simple and it's powerful. I find it is a simple way of trapping things there and then, leave my mind uncluttered enough to carry on with the task in hand.
I can come back to the In-Tray Mind Map later and sort through all these actions, notes, etc, where they are sorted for me on dated branches.
In project management terms, this is equivalent to capturing issues (CS3 for the PRINCE2 geeks), allowing assessment later on. On smaller projects, I could well imagine the combination of GyroQ and MindManager providing a good Issues Resolution support system.
Nick Duffill kindly sent me a copy to evaluate, but if you head over to the GyroQ page, the good folks of Gyronix will let you know when it is launched.
